Fatima Anis, PhD 2009, Receives a U.S. Department of Defense Postdoctoral Fellowship for Breast Cancer Research

Congratulations to Fatima Anis, PhD 2009, on receiving a U.S. Department of Defense postdoctoral fellowship for breast cancer research. In this 3-year, $329K project, Fatima will work on her project, "Development and Translation of Hybrid Optoacoustic/Ultrasonic Tomography for Early Breast Cancer Detection."

The Postdoctoral Fellowship Award supports exceptionally talented recent doctoral or medical graduates in their pursuit of innovative, high-impact breast cancer research during their postdoctoral training and allows them to obtain the necessary experience for an independent career at the forefront of breast cancer research. These individuals are exceptionally talented scientists who have demonstrated that they are the "best and brightest" of their peers.

Fatima received her PhD in physics from Kansas State University in 2009 under the direction of Brett Esry. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow in Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.
