One of the most exciting and fruitful advances in ultrafast strong-field science has been the development of infrared laser sources, motivated by the capability to deliver significant increases in ponderomotive forces when compared to their “traditional” counterparts operating at visible and near-infrared wavelengths (VIS/NIR). Although many phenomena, their applications and theoretical frameworks were straightforwardly adapted from VIS/NIR to the infrared regime, early experiments also revealed novel and unexpected science. In this presentation I will provide a broad overview of strong-field science at infrared wavelengths discussing high harmonic generation in solids, electron wave packet dynamics with its application to low energy structures, ultrafast molecular imaging, and the role of molecular vibrations during strong-field ionization.
