Research Area
Theoretical Soft, Condensed, and Biological Matter Physics
My research expertise and interests lie at the interface of (1) soft-matter physics, and (2) biological physics. My research objectives on soft materials are application focused and addresses industrial challenges such as controlling surface migration of small molecules in complex formulations, predicting properties of confined soft matter, and quantitative modelling of corrosion protection of polymerised coatings. My biophysics research objectives are curiosity driven, with a long-term goal of developing clinical applications to address current health challenges. These include modelling the mechanics of bacterial cell walls – aimed to tackle the antimicrobial resistance of pathogens, chromosome organisation in cell nucleus and epigenetic regulation – to address abnormalities in genome packaging that lead to human pathologies, and biological phase separation – to address formation and functioning of membraneless organelles and associated pathologies. As a theoretician I collaborate extensively with experimentalists across academia and industry.
