Project Overview:

My project this summer has been to test and collect data about the resistivity of different types of Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (FRP). I tested three types of FRP: standard grade, fire-retardant, and electrical grade. One of these types will be used to build the field cage of the DUNE Far Detector. FRP’s are normally highly-resistive materials, so high voltage was used (ranging from 500-2900 Volts) to collect the data needed to determine the resistivity of each type

Research Description:   Please make this accessible to a prospective REU student, and to a graduate student in your area of research.  Length and level of detail are largely up to you.  Check with                                                      your advisor before posting any new data or giving away any patentable intellectual property.   This can be a detailed description of your approach to your research, in                                                            step-by-step style, or a final report type review of your activities and findings.

Research Progress:        I have made great progress!  I am currently done with the KSU 2016 Summer REU program, but I am continuing to analyze the data that was collected over the summer. This will                                                 be my senior research project at my home institution.

Final Presentation:           Click here to download my presentation in Powerpoint and pdf formats. (Still working on it)

About Me:                         Kansas State University’s REU program is the first REU program I have attended. I attend college at Point Loma Nazarene University. I first got interested in physics when I                                                 took my first physics class at community college. After taking Modern Physics, I decided I wanted to pursue my Ph.D. in particle or high energy physics.  I'm involved in PLNU’s                                                 chapter of the Society of Physics Students.
