Corwin and Washburn Research Groups

Webpage Updated 08/19/18

Greetings and welcome to my physics webpage.  I am an associate professor of physics at Kansas State University.  My goal is develop and grow a strong research program specializing in the fields of nonlinear optics, fiber optics, and laser physics.  My current research topics are in the areas of fiber laser based frequency combs for gas phase spectroscopy, gas-filled hollow core photonic crystal fiber lasers, and photonic microcell optical frequency references.  I have independently developed a strong experimental and computational physics program in these areas and have obtained external funding from multiple sources.  My most recent grant, funded by the National Science Foundation Division of Biological Infrastructure, is to develop a mid-infrared dual-comb spectroscopy system for the detection of agriculturally significant gases with an interdisciplinary team of world-class physicists and agronomists.  We call this novel instrument an agro-comb. The instrument will allow simultaneous absorption measurements of multiple gas species in a field environment.  More about my research can be found here.
