Vortex Switching in Nanomagnetic Structures

I will be doing my research project in collaboration with Dr. Gary Wysin for the summer. Dr Wysin has been able to study using Monte Carlo simulation the effects and the switching of a vortex after an unpolarized current is passed through a hole at the center of a nanomagnet. We will take this study one step further and study the effects of passing a constant magnetic field through two holes in a nanomagnetic structures. I will be doing some computation and using Monte Carlo simulation to help me study vortex dynamics and stability.

Research Goals:

1.      To test and confirm vortex attraction to a hole

2.      Switching the vortex between the two holes by applying a magnetic field
