Cable Simulation

Previous Up Next

Real cables have capacitance, resistance, and inductance. The capacitance means that it will take time for the cable to charge and discharge; the inductance means that it will take time for the current to begin flowing.

In the top graph, the red line in the first graph represents current, and the blue line represents voltage. The bottom graph is of voltage versus time. Current flows down the line in pulses, and the voltage is charged in steps.
