Student Shop Training

The Physics Machine Shop provides a basic machine tool course for undergraduate and graduate Physics students involved in research. This course will provide safety training, basic hand tool, drill press, drilling and tapping, and grinding techniques.

Graduate students may apply for basic and advanced lathe and milling machine training after the basic safety and tool course has been successfully completed.

All students applying for the basic course should first take time and view the “Machine Shop 1” video on the link provided below before taking the course. More advanced videos such as “Machine Shop 2” thru “Machine Shop 9” can also be viewed thru this link for a greater understanding of the techniques used in the machine shop.
