
Fermilab Announces Bolton as DUNE-US Project Director
Timothy Bolton, professor of physics, was recently moved into the project director role for DUNE-US. DUNE-US is the federal project responsible for US contributions to the international Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment.
These changes were made to better align efforts in the international Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility/Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, a project is hosted at Fermilab in Chicago and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. It is an international project that aims to to unlock the mysteries of neutrinos.
Neutrinos are the most abundant matter particles in the universe, and are all around us. However, we don't know much about them. Thus, scientists on this project hope to better understand the universe and how it works.
The experiment will use Fermilab’s powerful particle accelerators to send the world’s most intense beam of high-energy neutrinos to DUNE's massive neutrino detectors, which will explore their interactions with matter.
To build and operate LBNF/DUNE, Fermilab has a collaboration that includes over 1,000 scientists from more than 30 countries, relying on scientific and technical expertise from universities, laboratories and companies worldwide
These discoveries have the potential to transform our understanding of the universe.
