Physics Department Announces Activities for All-University Open House

The Physics Department invites you to join them in a variety of activities they will be hosting during K-State’s Open House on Sunday, April 1, from 9 am to 3 pm on the Manhattan campus.

Join us in the Union Ballroom where you can see physics toys, make a bracelet that senses UV light, and discuss our degree programs and research areas.

Stop by Cardwell Hall, where you can get hands-on with some of our user-friendly demonstrations, and pick up (or even build) giveaways to continue your scientific investigations at home!

Tours of our Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics laboratories will be available at 9:30 and 10:30 am, and interactive activities and explanations of optics (courtesy of the Kansas Optical Society) and lasers will be available throughout the day.

At 11:30, visit 103 Cardwell Hall to witness our favorite physics demonstrations.

At 12:30 pm in 103 Cardwell, there will be a talk by Dr. Bharat Ratra on “Dark Matter, Dark Energy, Einstein's Cosmological Constant, and the Accelerating Universe.” This non-technical talk will explain some effects of dark energy, which is the leading candidate for the mechanism that is responsible for causing the cosmological expansion to accelerate.
