The Higgs boson, a simple phenomenological construct to explain electroweak symmetry breaking and fermion masses, has been discovered by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012. It appears to be the first known fundamental scalar field, presenting physicists with a host of new questions about new particles and forces, dark matter, and Universe formation and its ultimate fate. In this talk, I will discuss some of these questions and describe how the LHC upgrades may help us find some of the answers.
