I shall discuss the concept of gauge symmetry and the mechanism behind its spontaneous breaking. The excitation of the scalar field responsible for this effect is commonly referred to as Higgs boson. I shall briefly review the LHC discovery of a resonance that could be Higgs boson. Then I shall discuss the measurements of the properties of this resonance, essential to confirm this hypothesis.
