The Latin American Center for Physic (CLAF) has the unique status among other Latin American institutions of being an intergovernmental organization. Its origin and the "Cold War" in the sixties, made the center a singular point in the region. There is no such thing for mathematics, chemistry or other discipline. The representatives at CLAF are in fact representatives of the member countries. Due to its official status, it represents an opportunity to find a way for the developing of sciences in Latin America region.

I revisit Latin American cultural history and its link with the scientific development. Additionally I perform an analysis of the development of science and technology in the region and the new paradigms that the Center has to face. The sub-fields that are more highly developed in the region are also presented and discussed. Finally, programs focused on Latin America and Central America are presented, emphasizing support for experimental research and technological development.
