Telefund volunteers:

Feb. 20th: Asma, Jen, Zack, Chad
Feb. 21st: Jen, Zack, Chad

See front page for upcoming movie night

<< November 19th, 2007 >>

Book sale is going well.

<< November 5th, 2007 >>

T-shirts will be in on November 15th and after we sort them by buyer, we'll let everyone know when and where they can be picked up (probably a table set up of some sort - hey why not during the book sale?)

The book sale is November 19th and 20th in the front of CW.

We started a new project - getting ready for the LANL trip for next semester

<< October 22nd, 2007 >>

Finalized decisions in order of chronology:

T-shirts: the order will be made Tuesday, October 23rd, and
they will be available whenever Ballards finishes them.
Also, we will order some so we can sell them with books
during the book sale, and to give to the guest lecturer and
at open house

Projects for Open House (April 19th '08): Arcade Machine with
physicsy games on it (flash games and whatnot), a model
accelerator that shoots stuff, and a digital acoustic guitar

Next PhysClub meeting: Monday, November 5th at 4:30pm in CW40

Movie Night: November 16th at 7pm in CW119 - Transformers
(2007)

Book sale: Mon, Tues, Wed - November 19th (need volunteers)

Guest lecturer ideas for semester 2: Neil deGrasse Tyson,
Jean Claude Diels, or Alan Guth

<< October 15th, 2007 >>

-Finished t-shirt order setup

-set up a project with three people on it (to justify funding the project with physclub money) Main ideas - going to vote on one at the next meeting:

  • model particle accelerator
  • rail gun
  • ionic wind generator
  • theremin

<< October 10th, 2007 >>

Talked about the same stuff as usual.  Movie night Friday.  See front page.  w00t.

<< September 26th, 2007 >>

On Thursday, October 11th, KSU Physics Alumnus Bill Spencer (PDF) will be giving a talk in the Hemisphere Room in Hale Library (5th Floor) at 3:30pm.

<< September 12th, 2007 >>

Fundraising: books (we might sell them, and are currently looking for donations), t-shirts (CafePress - have people order directly from it - best idea - get sample shirt first), resistor earrings (Asma is working on this)

Build a mini-fridge?

Rube Goldberg competition?

<< August 29th, 2007 >>

1. Dr. Zollman has some words to say on recruitment: "One place to look for new students is the Physics 122 class. They don't even know you guys [Physics Club] exist."
"Get some messages out to the undergrad classes - have professors remind their classes of Physics Club meetings the day of or before."

2. Zollman on funds: we [Physics Club] get to spend the interest from a fund set up by the previous department head, Jim Legg [The Physics Club Endowment], but we probably have a few hundred dollars from it. 3. Physics Graduate students can probably be members of Physics Club, but we have to check with SGA for certain.

4. Fundraiser: book sale; recycle; national society of physics organizations, t-shirts

5. Alumni Speaker: Thursday, October 11, around 3:30 or 4pm: Bill Spencer

He was the CEO for an operation called SEMATECH; credited with creating this operation of a coalition of semiconductor companies.

Previously VP of Xerox… got PhD in KSU in condensed matter physics

6. In-meeting lectures: if you have an idea for professors lecturing on something for a club meeting, bring it up to Aaron Pung.

7. Spring Break travel ideas: LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LABORATORY in NM is a great idea

8. Budget: we have one. We want people to pay their soda tab

9. Officiality: We are official

10. To discuss later: telefund, spring break, and fundraisers, and career fair
