Large Memory Machines

Why?  We have a few machines with large amounts of memory (2 GB or more).  These machines are intended for jobs that need more than 750 MB of memory.  Such jobs generally take a long time to run anyway, so they can take a very long time when competing with other jobs for CPU time.  We have several machines that can be used for jobs that need 750 MB or less of memory, so these should be used first.

To find out whether a machine has jobs running on it and how much memory a particular process takes, use the command top.  You, of course, have to be logged in to the machine you are interested in finding out about.
