Research Area

Experimental Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) Physics

We use COLd Target Recoil Ion Momentum Spectroscopy (COLTRIMS or "Reaction Microscope") to study interactions of intense femtosecond laser pulses with atoms and molecules. In our experiments we measure momentum vectors of all charged fragments (electrons and ions) in coincidence. We are interested in such aspects of strong field-matter interactions as ionization of atoms and molecules, dynamic alignment of molecules by laser pulses, Coulomb explosion imaging of ultrafast molecular dynamics. For dynamics studies we combine COLTRIMS with pump-probe technique using few-cycle laser pulses. We are also interested in effects of carrier-envelope phase (CEP) of few-cycle pulses on strong-field processes.
