EXPERIMENTAL NEUTRINO PHYSICS
KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY
The High Energy Physics group at the Department of Physics
at Kansas State University is seeking a highly qualified RESEARCH ASSOCIATE in
neutrino physics.
A major interest of the neutrino physics group at
Kansas State is in performing studies and developing software of general use to
the larger neutrino physics community.
The group is also active in the KamLAND and Double
Chooz experiments, playing a leading role in the development and application of
simulation and analysis software, and developing monitoring hardware for the
Double Chooz detector.
The Double Chooz reactor antineutrino experiment,
currently under construction, will measure the mixing angle theta-13 in the next
few years at the Chooz nuclear power station in northern France, with first data
expected as early as late 2009.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in
the commissioning and first data collection and analysis for the Double Chooz
experiment and to contribute strongly to our efforts to improve and enhance
toolkits for the simulation of neutrino experiments.
A Ph.D. in physics with an emphasis on experimental
data analysis is required, and good programming skills in C++ and demonstrated
ability in the methods and science of neutrino experiments are all highly
desirable.
The position will be based in Manhattan, Kansas, with
required travel to the Chooz site in France and meetings at other collaborating
institutions.
Anyone interested in this research program is encouraged to
apply.
Candidates should submit a letter of application, CV, and a
list of publications, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to
Dr. Glenn Horton-Smith at
gahs@phys.ksu.edu,
with cc to Mrs. Pamela Anderson at
pschremm@phys.ksu.edu.
Review of applications will begin June 15, 2008.
The position will be available as soon as a highly
qualified candidate is identified from a sufficient number of qualified
applicants.
