Greetings from the Department Head
Congratulations on your decision to pursue graduate studies in physics; you have chosen an exciting and rewarding career! It is my great pleasure to provide you with an introduction to the Department of Physics at Kansas State University. It contains brief descriptions of our educational program, the research interests of our faculty, our facilities for conducting this research, and other information about the department and the university.
With 28 teaching faculty members, our department is not large enough to do everything; but what we do, we do very well. K-State professors conduct world-class research in our departmental specialties: atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics, cosmology, high energy physics, physics education, and computational physics. Our department received over $5.9 million last year in research grant support. This peer-reviewed grant support is evidence that our research is in the forefront of physics. I am proud to mention that we have a caring faculty. Our students get lots of individual attention and most earn their Ph.D. degree in less time than the national average.
If you have other questions or if you would like to make a visit, please call me collect at (785) 532-6786 or send e-mail to graduate@phys.ksu.edu .
Sincerely,
