Brock Dale, retired K-State Physics faculty member, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010, at the age of 91. Brock earned his BS and MS from the University of Oklahoma. He joined the research staff of Phillips Petroleum in 1940. In 1948 he and his wife Bette moved to Ohio State University where they completed PhDs. Brock began working for the Battelle Institute in Columbus, OH, after his defended his PhD in 1953. He came to K-State in 1957 as an Assistant Professor and retired as Professor in 1989. Brock came to K-State as a condensed matter physicist. However, he combined his love of music with his interest in physics by conducting research on musical instruments and teaching a course called Physics for Musicians. He once also formed a string quartet in which all members were faculty and students in the Department. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Manhattan at 481 Zeandale Road, Manhattan, KS.
