Transfer of learning has often been defined as the application of knowledge learned in one situation to a different situation.  I will present transfer of learning as an overarching theme that ties together some of the diverse projects that my group and I have been working on over the past three years.  I will discuss the traditional and contemporary perspectives on transfer of learning and how they have informed our research and curriculum development efforts especially in helping students learn the physical principles underlying everyday objects.  An example of a curricular unit that we have developed as well as results of pilot-tests will be described.
