Mostly, Ar11+ and CO, but plenty of other stuff, like lasers. Oh yeah, and deflectors. Lots of deflectors.
Week 1
Nora and I ordered resistors for the new spectrometer. Not much else worth calling progress.
Week 2
This week we began assembling our EBIS-C (previously EBIS-G) beamline. Stage 1 of this line consists of a quadrupole deflector, 1-dimensional einzel lens, vertical and horizontal steerers, 2-dimensional einzel lens, 4-jaw slit, plus a cross with a turbo pump, beamviewer and faraday cup. Assembly was rough and heavy, but with our small army of undergraduates we managed to get everything up on the line and properly sealed. Number of copper gaskets consumed: 12.

In addition, Eric and 3 students from Augustana College visited this week to conduct a pair of experiments on our LINAC beamline. We tested Eric's spectrometer to see if proper resolution could be obtained for his proposed GSD resonance experiment - however, it looks like the jet temperature is currently about an order of magnitude too large. We also used the chamber for our old water experiments to study the break-up of methane and ammonia. Specifically, we were looking for bond rearrangement channels like

and preliminary results seem to indicate that we did see bond rearrangement. We also saw these channels in the breakup of ammonia, as well as the doubly charged ammonia cation. However, we don't know yet if there was any H3+ formation.
Week 3
