K-State Physics ranks first in federal funding among the physics departments of the peer institutions designated by the Board of Regents of Kansas.

In 2006, the Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics specialties at K-State Physics ranks 14th in the US,  by US News and World Report, and tied with Princeton University.

K-State ranks first in Federally financed research and third in total expenditures among Land grant universities without medical schools.
