DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY

The J.R. Macdonald Laboratory, Department of Physics, Kansas State University, is seeking two or more RESEARCH ASSOCIATES in the areas of (i) attosecond physics, (ii) intense-field short-pulse physics and (iii) coherent control of ultra-cold atoms.  Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Physics or a related field.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of these areas: femtosecond laser systems; ultrafast/intense laser interactions with atoms/molecules; and cw lasers for laser cooling, electromagnetically induced transparency, etc.  Research in these areas in the Department of Physics includes high harmonic and attosecond pulse generation and atomic/molecular physics carried out using these pulses; and the control of coherent excitation and cold collision processes (see http://jrm.phys.ksu.edu/ ).  The initial appointment will be for a one year term with a second and possible third year term appointment contingent upon performance and availability of funding.  Candidates should submit a letter of application and a vita including a list of publications to Director, J.
