Condensed Matter Group Faculty
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
EXPERIMENTAL NANO-BIO SCIENCE
CONDENSED MATTER GROUP
kansas state university
The Department of Physics
at Kansas
State
University
seeks an experimental physicist whose
research interests lie in the general area of nanoscience. In particular we
desire to find a cross-disciplinary scientist who might engage in research at
the interface between nano- and biosciences such as nanostructured and
biomimetic materials, studies of self assembly into superlattices, gels and
membranes and the novel properties of materials so produced, soft matter and
complex fluids. The successful
candidate will be appointed at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor
or Associate Professor
in the
Physics
Department. Candidates must present credentials which will justify appointment
at the appropriate level, including a PhD in physics or a closely related field.
The successful candidate should also demonstrate a strong commitment to
teaching, mentoring of students and serving a diverse population.
Candidates with exceptional research records, such
as publications in premier journals and previous funding by Federal funding
agencies and/or national laboratories and teaching records which include
graduate student and postdoc advising, could be appointed as a tenured Associate
Professor.
The Department
has outstanding experimental and theoretical Condensed Matter physics programs
involving seven faculty members. Faculty research interests include
self-assembly of nanoparticles, surface structure and surface interactions of
nano/bio components, nano-photonics, biosensors, and nanostructured magnetic
systems. Connections and collaborations with Chemistry, Chemical Engineering,
Biology, Biochemistry, and The Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research
are possible and will be encouraged.

Applications should be sent to The Condensed Matter Search Committee, 116
Cardwell Hall, Kansas
State University, Manhattan, KS 66506-2601
or to
cmesearch@phys.ksu.edu.
In addition to a curriculum vita, applications should include statements of
research and teaching interests, and should indicate which level of position
they are applying for. Candidates should also arrange to have three (3) letters
of reference sent directly. Screening of applicants will begin on January 11,
2008, and continue until the position is filled.
