JRM Logo Job Opportunities

There are currently openings in the JRM Lab: several in our experimental group. and one in the theoretical group. We are always seeking new graduate students interested in either experimental or theoretical AMO physics.

Research Associates
Kansas State University
Experimental AMO Physics
The J.R. Macdonald Laboratory, Department of Physics, Kansas State University, is seeking two or more RESEARCH ASSOCIATES in the areas of (i) intense-field short-pulse physics and (ii) coherent control of ultra-cold atoms. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Physics or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of these areas: femtosecond laser systems; ultrafast/intense laser interactions with atoms/molecules; and cw lasers for laser cooling, electromagnetically induced transparency, etc. Research in these areas in the Department of Physics includes high harmonic and attosecond pulse generation and atomic/molecular physics carried out using these pulses; and the control of coherent excitation and cold collision processes (see http://jrm.phys.ksu.edu/ ). The initial appointment will be for a one year term with a second and possible third year term appointment contingent upon performance and availability of funding. Candidates should submit a letter of application and a vita including a list of publications to:

Research Associate Position
Theoretical Atomic, Molecular & Optical Physics
Kansas State University
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position in theoretical atomic, optical, and surface physics A preferred starting date is between March and June 2008. The selected candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Physics and is expected to vigorously participate in ongoing and emerging research projects, including interactions of atoms, ions, and intense, ultra-fast laser pulses with surfaces, clusters, and nano structures, using state-of-the-art methods in computational quantum dynamics. Applicants should have a strong background in theoretical atomic or surface physics and in large-scale computing. The KSU Physics Department and associated J.R. Macdonald Laboratory have a strong AMO physics program that targets new and exciting frontiers in ion- and laser-interactions with matter and was recently ranked as one of the top 14 in the US. Send your letter of application, curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to:
